Typecasting: It’s a Real Thing. Be Known for What You Want
Pivot! Pivot! Pivot!
I couldn’t get it out of my head.
No, I am not talking about the pandemic-driven way entrepreneurial women I know refocused and redirected their businesses to find success in a Zoom world. I am talking about the HBO show “Band of Brothers” that we recently began watching.
Ross Geller, I mean the actor David Schwimmer, was the big, bad guy. The commander everyone loved to hate. He was mean and difficult. But all I saw was Ross.
“We were on a break,” I expected him to say to his troops when he couldn’t back them up.
Similarly, I used to have a problem seeing movies with Lucille Ball in a romantic role.
Getting typecast is a real thing.
Does any character come to mind for you that is so strong that you have difficulty seeing them in another role?
What about your business. Is there something that you are known for that you would like to stop, or, conversely, an area that you would like to expand into but feel you are “typecast” in a different light?
Our business stories as entrepreneurs are waiting for us to write them.
