Life is a Bit Different on the Ranch
I’m writing this from a real working dude ranch in Wickenburg, AZ, where I’ve tagged along with Vivid Stage ( the local professional theatre company I help with marketing for) for a western adventure.
Channeling my inner cowgirl, I’ve ridden a horse; I’ve been in pursuit of another pair of cowboy boots; I’ve danced beside a bonfire to a country band, I’ve lost sight of eating vegetables; and I’ve spent a whole lot of time looking out on gorgeous mountain views and staring up at night skies I have never dreamed possible.
It’s that last part that’s gotten to me--the slower-paced life that grants you the time to stop and think. Smell the roses, or in this case the cacti. I know it’s healthier to be more mindful and not let the stress take over.
What can I do to bring some of this healthier approach home with me, where the pace is frenetic and the grind doesn’t stop? What can we all do?
I’m not sure, but if I say “howdy” when I run into you in town, please don’t look at me funny.
